i aggregated 150 "best tv shows of 2023" lists because metacritic wouldn't

 Normally around this time of year I'll be checking on the yearly Metacritic year-end round ups. It's a great way to keep track of al the critically acclaimed shows, movies, and music I missed throughout the year. Unfortunately because of a redesign, they decided to discontinue the yearly list aggregations. Me however, I love lists. So I took it upon myself to find as many critics lists as possible and present one complete year end rank.

For the actual ranking I used the exact same point system Metacritic has used in the past. Here's how that breaks down.

• 3 points for each 1st place ranking
• 2 points for each 2nd place ranking
• 1 point for being ranked 3rd - 10th, or for being included on an unranked list
• 0.5 points for being included on an unranked list of 11-20 titles (rather than 10), or for each item on split comedy/drama lists of 10 titles apiece (regardless of ranking on those lists)

With that said, lets get into our top 25(ish).

With the list out of the way, let's talk about some statistics of the list.

The top ten of the list in points is the same as the top 10 most mentioned shows but in a different order: Succession (110), The Bear (109), The Last of Us (95), Beef (77), Poker Face (66), Reservation Dogs (55), Jury Duty (43), Barry (43), I'm A Virgo (30), The Fall of House Usher (28).

Here is a break down of all the shows that were ranked #1 on any list that was compiled.

The highest aggregate ranked show to not be placed first on any individual critic's list was Poker Face at #6. The highest aggregate ranked show to not be placed at first or second was Dead Ringers at #12. 

Here are the network with the most shows on the ranking, HBO (5), FX/Hulu (4), Netflix (4), Prime (3), Apple TV+ (2), Peacock (2).

This was fun to do, but not so much fun that I want to do it again this year, so hopefully they pick it up for 2024. Unless Metacritic pays me, then I'd totally do it again. So let's make that happen.
